Breeding Cichlids

At what age or at what sized can cichlids ( electric blue/yellow to be more precise ) can have babies?

I heard after 1 year they are fully mature and can have babies
Is this true?


And do eletric blue/yellow cichlids eat cichlid pellet food? Or live fish? I heard pellet foods has more nutrients and won't harm the fish
