:sly: HI I HAVE 1 MALE BETTA AND 3 FEMALES, I'VE ONLY RECENTLY GOT THESE FEMALES AND HOW CAN YOU TELL IF THE MAle and female LIKE EACH OTHEr AND COULD SOMEONE GIVE ME ADVICE PLEASE? :*)

Do you know what you're doing? Tail types? Colours? Have you got jars for the fry later on? Have you conditioned them for a week or more?

If a dark female wants to breed with a male she can see she will have stripes on her side.

Stripes, depend on the color of the female. My yellow doesn't have stripes. Just got full of eggs, and when I let her in with the male, she swam at him with her head down, and did a little dance.

 the male is a blue purple and so is two other females but the last female has red tails and fins but all of the females are striped

What are the tail types?
Bettas can also be striped when they are under stress so that's not always a permanent color...unless they are stressed all the time. It also depends what way the stripes are going.

what's all the tail types? And why are they so key to breeding???

Because the common Veiltail (the type most often found in stores) is hard to rehome, while other types (Halfmoon, Delta, Super Delta, Plakat, Crowntail, Doubletail, Spade Tail) tend to be much easier to rehome, because they're more rare. The other types also generally have more known about their genetic history, so it is easier to predict what will be obtained from a breeding, and they are bred accordingly.

so the ones from wal mart (the long tailed ones) are veil tales, and your NOT supposed to breed those?

yea your not suppose to breed veil tails and if you do you will catch ALOT of crap if you talk about it on this forum (i no i did) :p

:p hey im new 2 breeding bettas how da hell am i ment 2 know?

Then don't breed. If you got them 2 days ago, they're not conditioned. Read the pinned topics, do a lot of research, make sure you have everything, THEN think about it. Breeding bettas is not the same as breeding guppies or whatever.
