I was just wondering if anyone has any ideas on this one...
I've kept bettas for a few years now, I have a male in a small heated and filtered tank alone and keep a few females in one of my community tanks. Anyway, a little convo with my brother over the phone convinced me to have an attempt at breeding them. I've never bread anything but livebearers before myself which seem pretty simple, so figured this might be a new challenge.
Anyway, I did a little Googling and scanning the net on how best to go about breeding, decided to keep the male as recommended in his own tank, and put the female where he can see her but can't get to her by dividing the tank.
They've been so for a couple days now. He's happily built his bubblenest since seeing her and is displaying to her. She is also showing a fair bit of interest swimming towards him and displaying occasionally, and her small white 'breeding tube' is slightly visible under her abdomen. So, I decided to try putting her in with him, and just keep an eye on them. He was evil
He just chased her all over, tried to nip her and everything possible.
She hid from him pretty well, but he still eventually found her each time and pursued chasing her. She wasn't in the slightest displaying back as she was before I put them together. I coudln't leave them like this for long as I was worried he'd just destroy her, so I've put her back where he can see her. And he's gone back to tending his still empty bubblenest and displaying to her.
I'm not quite sure what to do now, I wasn't sure if they'd need a little time together but I don't want to just leave them together incase he kills her being like this. Any ideas?
