hey guys im wondering if you can help me !!!

ive got 1 male and 2 female balloon mollies and i want to breed them and i need advice on how to tell if there pregnant and what to do when their about to give birth

hi common livebeares are easy to breed
they should be already pregnant but its called gravid
you should be able to see a dark gravid spot at the back anul fins depending on the coulour of the fish they will get a lot fatter then normal
they will have any thing from 10 to 60 fry every 28 days so hope uv got the room or some were to rehome them
when there ready to have there fry uv got two choices put them in a breeding trap to have there fry, or get some floating plants wich i find better for the fish rather then moveing it to a breeding trap.
the babies will hide at the top of the tank in the floating plants keep cheacking daily to see if you see any fry and net them from the plants because the adult molly will eat them
either put fry in a breeding trap or set up another tank just for fry
feed the fry either liqafry or i find they do well on finley cruched flake

hope this helps :good:

The balloon mollies are harder to breed than most because of their shape - but being livebearers I think you can trust the females to get pregnant if there is a male within 100km. I'm sure there is a gang of aliens that walks around with a bag of male fish making sure all the females get pregnant! lol - overrun with fry and spending most of my pocket money on fish food.

The 'gravid spot' isn't really obvious in anything except guppies and sometimes swordtails and platies. Not in mollies in my experience anyway. The best way to tell is when the female's stomach swells up. When she is obviously a few days from giving birth some people will put them into a breeding net or move them to a seperate tank to ensure other fish don't harass her or eat the fry. Most of mine drop in the tank and I rescue what I can because I'm a sentimental twit and I don't seem to realise that I have more than 130 BABY PLATIES!

I have never breed Baloon mollies, however i know people that have, it is more difficult for them to breed due to their shape. The gravid spot will not be visible on mollies unless they are silver/white then it will still be faint.
I never bother to remove the fry from my tanks as usually most survive anyway if they have enough hiding places.
I feed the fry generally crushed flake that seems to work well for me all these years
:)
