Is there an upper limit on how old a male betta can be to breed? I know with some species the males can breed basically until they die but I am not too sure about male bettas. I have a male that is a couple years old and I recently found some females and was wondering if he is too old to attempt to be bred. I have bred bettas before but not at this age I have used younger males and only done it a few times.

im not sure so dont quote me on this but i think the age limit is around 18 months.

hmmm you might be right. I had a really old male and a female and I put them together and they ignored each other so they lived to with each other until the male died:)

The average is 18 months for a male, 12 for a female, but they can go longer, they just become less potent, and have a slimmer chance of fertilizing the eggs.
