i've read on the pinned topic about plants that cabomba and water sprites can do well in brackish water at a SG of 1.005. what about 1.008-1.009? will they die or just not grow as well? any suggestions for plants at this salinaty?

Yes, they'll die.

At SG 1.008+ you need specifically brackish water plants. There aren't that many traded, even though there are many species actually known. Java fern, Cryptocoryne ciliata, and Samolus valerandi are three that spring to mind. But under most circumstances you're better off with either plastic plants or mangroves.

Cheers,

Neale

Unless your willing to introduce some CO2 I'd suggest sticking with plastic / silk plants too. You'll have a hard time getting plants to thrive otherwise.

Plus there are some very good fake plants available these days.
