I'm getting a new tank for my frontosa this week, a 170 bowfront, I've yet to see it though. It was a reef display tank at a store where a friend works and she's getting it for a steal as they're changing shops. So, I jumped on it.

Then, I was talking with a friend today on the phone and he said that bowfronts tend to distort the appearance of the fish. Hmmm, I've always admired the shape of bows but never really noticed any distortion. So, should I just go for it, or back out and wait for a plain tank? Does anyone have any complaints about their bows?

they dont bother me at all. how much is it gonna cost you. if its free i would jump on it even if it has some drawbacks

There's a 72 bow in the office at work, it's a good looking tank. It's not like it has the severe curvature of a bowl or shipping bag that distorts the size of the fish. A gentle curve doesn't seem to affect it much, if at all.

tis true what tolak said. fish look fine. i find them kinda fun b/c rectangles get boring lol

it depends on the curve - i just sold a Trigon with a curve that is a quarter circle (4 trigons back to back would make a ring...cool display!)

and the bow is not ideal....when you are close to the glass and look side to side the image distorts..........really put me off bows.

however.....just spent £2k on a new bow front form my SW set up :D and thats a less sever bow with less distortion.

in my opinion curved glass is fine, corner tank extreem bow is not good and flat glass is best (but boring)

hmmm, ok then. Thanks tiggs (and Tokis and others...)
I really wish I could see it beforehand....I think I'd be 10x as excited if I had though :*) I do love a bow tank when I see them though, so... I'll go for it. I hope my fronts are pleased

My bowfronts are only from 1-5 gallons, but they don't seem to distort much. I used to be wary of buying bowfronts for that reason, but it's really not that noticeable at all.

I know were talking about a different scale of tanks but my 6 gallon eclipsw is bowed and seems fine

Yeh, the bow doesn't do much to the tank, only gives it an extra bit of width in the midle where the point of the bow is.
You HAVE to post pics once the Frontosa are in wuv  :p

I have a Juwel 180 bow and think it's lovely. The curve is quite gentle and very pleasing to *my* eye

I dont like them to be honest, I almost got the Juwel 450 but didnt like the bow front on that tank, I settled for a Juwel Rio 300.....which also meant I didnt have to have my floor reinforced.....(which was a bonus) but no I wouldnt have one but from looking at other replies I suppose its down to personal taste.

bowfronted tanks are cool instead of plain rectangle tanks.

Tanks like the Jewel bowfronted tanks don't distort the appearance of the fish AT ALL!
