Bought New Fish Tank

Ok here's the first pic:-

Just picked up my heater and have got 15Kg of play sand from Argos.

community of what though :shifty: what about a cichlid community. tanganjikan shell dwellers and julies...... a couple ofmbuna....

I wouldn't mix mbuna and tangs, and I've kept a 90L tang tank before - stocking options are limited. Some ocellatus and some julies maybe, but you can't have many flavours in there. Saying that ocellatus are gorgeous so still worth thinking about.

There is a school of thought coming through about apisto's of keeping huge numbers in tanks that size - stacks and stacks of bogwood, then a huge shoal of them there to imitate how they're found in the wild. Think I heard of 50 being kept in a 20 gal tank. Worth thinking about, if you can afford the stocking costs.

Woah. Sure that wasn't 200g? I'm sat here looking at my 20G and utterly failing to imagine how you'd cram in that number of fish.

Just what I was thinking

The only problem is that i would not be able to get many Malawi's in there, the tank is probably a bit on the small side

Have washed the sand filled with water, added the heater and bogwood, will need to get some more.

Ok I have decided to go for apisto's, I am busy buying up bogwood on ebay at the moment :)

There are 2 lights in the hood, but only one is working so I am in the process of buying some LED's from China so that will make an interesting project as well.

Heres two articles I read, though I've started a new thread in New World Cichlids to discuss it - if you're interested pop over here:

And I got the numbers wrong - the figure quoted was 50 apisto's in a 10G :)

FOR ANYONE SKIM READING THIS POST - its a suggestion for people who've some experience in the hobby, and as a species only tank. Don't think you can squeeze 200 apisto's between your guppies in your 20G tank, its not meant to work like that :)

Sorry to go off topic there a little degsod.

Tank looks like its coming along nicely, though as you've already said you could do with some more bogwood. Personally I'd get a couple more pieces and pile it all together so it creates a tangled effect.

Some black background would look good too. Coming along nicely so far :)

what i meant was tangs OR mbuna! lol :good:

Right, i have finally made up my mind, I am going for Dwarf Puffers, I think I can accomodate probably 5 in this tank, what does everyone else think?

I will be getting more bogwood and loads of plants to give them plenty of places to hide.
