I am being told that Borneo's need a cold water tank and I have one in a tropical tank with Guppies and Platy's . Please tell me if I am doing harm ?

Yes.

Temp should be lower, the tank does not have to be cold water, but around 70F.
You must have extra oxigen sources.
You must have strong current.
