Ecology of the planted aquarium (I think thats right) by Diana Walstad is one of the best.

Didnt look where your from beforehand - if your in UK probably have to get it online

Baensch Aquarium Atlas series are pretty good for ID as are the Axelrod Atlas and Axelrod Mini Atlas :)

Just get as many as you can and read them all. You can often find lots of books cheaply on fleabay.

the Baensch atlas and the Aqualogs are excellent unless your looking for advice on choosing a tank, filter and how to manage water quality. Id recommend the interpet 'Question and Answers' guide to tropical fresh water aquarium A really useful book and nice format!

i would recomened aquarium atlas but they are pritty expensize i would only get them if you are realy into fish keeping

Who needs a book when you've got this excellent forum!

No, honestly, think about it.... you have a wealth of instantly intelligent and bang up to date and 'fashionable' (if that's important to you also) answers to ANY questions you may have.

It's what the internet is all about, no?

The Baensch atlases are a must have for any serious hobbiest, atlases 1 and 2 cover almost anything you are likely to see in your average LFS and if you go the whole hog and get 1 to 4 you have pretty much the most comprehensive library of pictures and profiles money can buy, for those who can read German they are now up to numbers 5 and 6.

I didn't know they'd done the german editions. I can remember a bit of german from school so I might try and get hold of one.

They are German mate  they are slowly translating them into English. The German name is Mergus atlas, have a look on fleabay :)

I almost forgot, Aquariums for Dummies is quite good for the newbie too :good:

I can remember all the valuable german words (durchfall, anmachen), but sadly I was never taught the valuable aquaristic terms. i'll look for an excerpt online somewhere.
