I was wondering if anyone could recommend any books that an 89 yr old would enjoy. My gran is moving down to the village to live with my mum, but we're a bit worried about what she's going to do all day when everyone is at work. If she watches too much tv she gets a headache, and she can't knit or anything, thanks to arthritis. She enjoys reading, and I've been given the task of finding her a collection of books to get through. Unfortuanately, they must fit the following criteria :
no sex, no violence, no fantasy, no swearing, no satire (rules out my entire library), no biographies, and no heart wrenching stories about abused children. Preferably some link somewhere to Northumberland, Scotland, or the Lake District. Not Catherine Cookson, or Maeve Binchy, as she's read them all a hundred times over.
Unfortunatly, she's not mobile enough to take to a bookshop, or even the village library, so its up to us to try and guess what she'd enjoy.
Any ideas gratefully received!Or else I can see myself taking her to work with me!
