Just finished a water change and there was a sort of impression in the gravel like a dip where the new water had penetrated. Turned the lights on and watched my male Bolivian ram going over to the dip and rubbing his side/head in it?? Can't see any obvious signs of disease, no white spots but never seen this behaviour before. There is a female Bolivian ram in there too. Anyone got any ideas what this might be?

Do you have more than one bolivian ram? Is it a female? they like to lay their eggs in depression in the substrate or on rocks. any holes like you are saying could create that environment for them.

Have you checked the parameters?

I have a male and a female. Parameters are 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite and 10 nitrate. It is the male scraping himself in the depression. The female is hiding out of the way at the moment.

if you have just done a water change then its probably due to that. the difference in water will be aggetating his gills causing him to flash. he will be ok in a while so dont worry.
