Hi,

Could anyone help me with sexing these Rams. I have two Rams and think I have a male and female.

First two pics I think are the female.

Other pics I think male.

Cheers,

Dave.

In my opinion, the first two pics are a female. You can quite clearly see the vent, which is female.
But the last three pics - quite honestly, I wouldn't like to guess. This fish looks very emaciated. I would suggest you try feeding it up a bit before you'll be able to tell. Unless of course there is something wrong with it; internal infection, or a parasitic infection perhaps.

Cheers for the reply.

I've recently finished a course of Octozin as he/she was showing symptoms for internal parasites and I read that this would do the job. Since this it seems to be eating more and is more active. It does have quite big extensions on his pelvic and tail fins but can't really tell from these photos so, from what I've researched, looks to be a male.

He seems to be more interested in eating bloodworm but can't be feeding him this all of the time.

I've tried JBL Novo Bel Flakes, Tetra Prima granules and more recently JBL Grana Cichlid Premium pellets.

Is there anything that would be more suitable?

When I first got my bolivian rams, they didn't seem to know what food was, but I finally got them to eat with nutrafin max bottom feeder sinking food tablets. Nowadays they eat anything, one of them even feed from the surface (making a loud slurping noise)

If your rams has intestinal worms, you'll need some other treatment. The usual recommendations are Sera nematol for the UK and levamisol for the USA. If the octozin doesn't work, you may have to try one of those. See if the fish improves before trying these other meds.
