Hi guys,

I tried and tried to avoid starting another of these threads but I can't sex my Bolivian Ram confidently regardless of how much I read! So here goes!

The tail has extensions to it but the 3rd and 4th spikes on (his?) head aren't much longer at all than the other spikes? I think male but Im just not sure:

Thanks for the help,

Hi James, I'm 99% sure its a male, it has the extensions on the tail fins, and a pointed anal fin. According to everything I have read, and my Bolivian Ram (who I have reason to believe is male), your Boliv is male.

Plus I have a question, most Cichlid males get a bump on the head when they are in breeding condition or when they are simply a male fish, does this also apply to Bolivians? because in the first picture it looks like James's Ram has a bump. (I notice it sometimes on my Ram also)

Thankyou everyone.

I was thinking male too. Only thing that had me thrown was the length of the spikes. The fin extensions certainly suggest he's a he.

Good to have confirmation as I can now go in search of a 'missus' for my little guy!

Cheers,

JS

PS> Captain, I can confirm 'he' does have a bump on his head as you describe it. I read on another site that this is another male trait with the female having a more rounded face. This was another thing pointing me to thinking he was male.
