I have seen this topic on a few other forums, but with no real advice given.I have two red rams that don't appear to be eating.I have had them for a week now,one of them just sucks up sand and the other one just watches him.I have tried feeding them with a turkey baster, but they just sit there while the flakes bounce off them,i've got some bloodworm and brine shrimp comming tomorow so hopefully they'll eat that. Are they known as bottom feeders?

Sometimes this just happens due to how they were raised. Find what they will eat and then offer a variety and they will usually come around to the flake. Frozen bloodworms and shrimp are a good choice.

What is a "red" ram? Just another name for a Bolivian?

Thanks for the help...when i asked for Bolivian Rams, the guy called them Red Rams,i have also heard them called Butterfly Rams.

Also known them to be called 'Royal Rams' as for feeding mine love NLS 1mm sinking pellets, high quality and they are just the right size, tend to be not so rough compared to other pellets such as tetra prima . I try to vary their diet with bloodworms and if I pre mix a ground Hugh quality flake with the pellets in a little tank water they enjoy it even more.

OK, to stop the confusion between common names are your Rams: Microgeophagus ramirezi or Microgeophagus altispinosus?

It's always best to feed a variety; Cichlid pellets, Bloodworm, Brineshrimp, Daphnia, Mysis Shrimp and Boiled Chicken all work well, remember though that members of the Microgeophagus genus are earth eaters so it's normal for them to sift through sand.

They are Mikrogeophagus altispinosus(Boilivian,Red,butterly Rams).Microgeophagus ramirezi, are Blue Rams, said to be more fragile the the reds.

OK, the feeding regime I recommended can be applied to both species, I was just confused as M.ramirezi is sometimes referred to as the Butterfly Ram.
