Can I keep a bolivian female ram and a german blue ram together or is that frowned upon? If they do breed I don't think the fry will survive anyways because I've got fish in the tank who will eat them.

Thanks!

You probably could but i would never do it.

Can't you keep your Blue male on his own till you find him a female blue ram?

yeah I can I was just wondering if it was possible to keep a bolivian female with him instead. What did you mean by you never would? I think I need a history lesson on rams :p

Well even though they are both known as Rams they are slightly different species. Therefore IMO it is best to always keep two of the same species, rather than one of each.

I hope i explained that well enough lol.

I feel really dumb for even asking now. I thought they were basically the same species with just a little color variation :*) After looking through some pictures I can now see they also look different. Oops!

I will find him a blue ram female instead.. which I was planning on anyways.

(walks away embarassed LOL :p )

Thanks for your help!

I dont think it was a dumb question at all. :)

At least you have learnt something new as well.

They would work fine as tank mates in a 20+ gallon community tank. As for the mix up there are a fair few websites out there that publicise the bolivian as the "wild caught" version of the blue ram this doesnt help the issue, and less so when lps/lfs stock them in the same tank. It just show how important research is before new fish
