well i am getting a 300 litre tank and was thinking about getting bolivian rams
but then i came across german blues nd love them
i no they are a little less hardy but would accomadate for tht
so question is do they have to b in a pair or could i keep say 4 ov them nd if so wat
1 male 3 females
2 male 2 female

You could keep any combination really, just be prepared if you do get 2m/2f and they both pair off, that they may become aggressive to others when spawning, I mean they arent super aggressive, but they are protective so be aware of it.

I would be inclined to go with the 2m/2f as if you get 1m/3f, yes you are more likely to get a pair, but then the pair will hound the remaining females.

I'd say it depends on a lot on the rams. My female ram bullies the male ram and I don't see them "paring" anytime soon. Thinking about getting another two (one make and one female) and hopefully get a pair out of the four.

Of course I could be unlucky (my male ram actually), but I'd say 1 male + 3 females should give you a batter chance. Or perhaps 3 males and 1 female?

I would also go for 2 'pairs'
although in a 300L there would be plenty of room for each fish to have a small territory if things don't go quite to plan :good:
