I finally found a beautiful piece of driftwood in the yard, and i want to boil it. The problem is is that it is too big for a pot. How would I soak this? Also, I don't understand exactly what to do. Do I just bring it and boil it? Or soak it? For how long?

Any answers are greatly appreciated.

i had this problem :p i over came it by boiling different parts at a time, like sticking the bits in the pot that i could fit in then turning it around abit, if you can understand what im trying to say, and i soak it in bath! Worked for meee

dont boil it? Let it sit in a container for a few weeks.

I heard boiling will make it rot quicker

Ok, well I think I'll pour boiling water over it. For how long though, and how much?

Just pouring boiling water over it won't have any effect whatsoever. You need far more exposure time.

Here's an example. I recently treated a store-bought piece of "aquarium" wood. I put it in a big canning pot full of water, and started to simmer it. At first, the water had a pH of 4.5, and was very stained by tannins. It took 4 days to treat that wood (boiling for several hours each day), before the water pH reached 7, and the tannin colour was reasonable.

You may also need quite awhile before it will sink in water. Some wood will never sink. Check that out first, before you go to the trouble of boiling.

Good luck! Natural wood looks great in a tank.

Well, will it work if I simply soak it in any temperature of water for weeks?

How much and how long did you do this? That sounds good for me.

I think you need to have boiling water for a period of time in order to kill anything that may be on/in the wood.
