I love the look of bogwood in so many of your tanks, and would love to try that in my new tank.

What is the best place to get it? My fish store only carries dried hunks of wook screwed onto pieces of slate to weigh them down.

I'm not really sure to be honest. My LFS sells it in huge boxes, they have tons of it. But that doesn't help you ;)

I am going to BA's in Mississauga today ( the one on Dundas ) I'll look there for ya
I have 2 pieces in my new 46G bow front with lace java fern tied to them...they look amazing !!!
I'll post pics when the tank settles down...just to make ya drool :p
:)

I go to or through Mississauga every now and then, so i would have no problem making a trip there. I can always stop in to visit my friends who live there. I sould call my BA's to see if they have any. I have only seen the dried wood, but maybe they keep it in a different section than the rest of the wood.

Do let me know what they have there and the average price.

I'd really appreciate it.

Well I just got back...sorry did not check prices -_- my arms were full and so was my brain...80% driftwood ( not mounted ) but I did see some bogwood...nothing to big but some...

if your ever in the area let me know...( don't worry my girlfriend says I can't stalk people over the net anymore :( ).... :p

I'm going to be passing through mississagua on wednesday on my back from an interview in Toronto. I'll have to make a detour and check that big al's out. I've heard its huge.

I live in Ontario as well, and all the drift/bog wood in my tanks I have found on my own. I live near lake erie (5min drive) and along the grand river, so finding drift wood is the easy part, cleaning, soaking, and boiling it is the pain! If you ever for whatever reason come out my way you can take as much as you can, I head down to the beaches and fill my trunk full!

I just mentioned to my friend that I'm buying a tank from that i was going to look at wood today. He was like, 'Why are you doing that? I've got 2 monster pieces in the tank I'm giving you1'.

It's been so long since I've seen his tank, that I forgot what was in there (other than a ton of poo and algae.

So he sent me a picture, and it's exactly what I was looking for. I must have subconsciously remembered that he had it.

So here is a pic of the wood I scored! (One of the pieces cost over a hundred!)

don't mean to hijack but....is driftwood from the Great Lakes safe for tanks?? I live right near Lake Ontario and I know it's not even safe to eat the fish, let alone use the driftwood in my tanks - of course I haven't TRIED to use that driftwood in my tanks because I'm too worried - I know you can boil, boil, soak, soak all you want and things like salt (in oceanic areas) may not be completely removed from the wood - what about pollutants?

I would be hesitant to put anything from Lake Ontario in. Like you said, it is full of pollution. I'm not sure about the rest of the great lakes though

well since they are all connected i would assume they all have some levels of pollution...

ccg: you haven't had any problems with the driftwood from lake erie? do you take any other precautions out of the ordinary to cure/clean the wood? how long do you usually soak/boil it for? several weeks?
