Well again its my day off and again i've been shopping. Today came home with a nice 2ft piece of bogwood to be a centrepiece in the tank

I know i have to soak it but was wondering how long for? its quite a chunk.

It usually recommended to soak it for around 2 weeks, changing the water regularly.

If you dont mind the tannins in the water(weak tea colour),then put it in,tannins are harmless to fish and are quite beneficial to some :)

I put mine in the kitchen sink and filled it with boiling water from the kettle let it soak for 20 mins drain it and repeat 3 or 4 times after which it went into the tank. No water staining occured.

well i left it to soak in hot water for an hour, ive put it in the tank, put a rock on to hold it down.

Am now sitting here watching the rams chase the bubbles coming out of the wood :p

Lol im like you, impatient! I just chuck it in, never really had a prob with tannins leaching from wood, though if it does I would just take it out and soak it

There's no need to soak it, you can put it straight in if you don't mind the tannins, but it could be months before it is completely tannin free.

I was 3 months of having 3 x 1 ft long pieces in, and that was after 4 days of socking in water (boiling water refreshed every 2 hours in the evenings and days off) Still my water turned in colour, now its out and slate is in, water is crystal clear! I don't know how some people have clear water after bogwood.

I like the tannins look  - all my bogwood was soaked less than 24 hrs then put in the tank :good:
