I have noticed on one of my pieces of bogwood that it keeps getting this whitish film on one part of it . Its like fish mucus . I have even power washed it but it has still come back . I took it out of the tank today and in the affected area it smells a bit like mushrooms  does anyone have any idea what this is or how to get rid of it ??? ............. before use the wood was soaked for 2 months in water and then i put no end of boiling water over it and scrubbed it before i put it in the tank , so i dont think that anything living could be the cause . But if anyone has any helpfull information then please let me know . :/

the piece of bog wood that came with my tank (bought second hand) has this stuff. seems to start coming out of it every time it comes into contact with air. i've boiled it, scrubed it but it still does it, in the end i gave up left it in the tank and scrubed off the remaining parts with a tooth brush and been fine, that was two years ago. the only time i have to scub it now is if it comes into contact with air!? have no idea what it is but my tanks been fine with it in!

Thanks scott for your reply like you i have tried everything but i had a plan ............ it seems to me to be some sort of fungus , maybe because of the smell , so what i was thinking of doing was to paint on in a neat solution the affected area with a fish anti-fungal treatment maybe the wood wood soak up this solution and maybe it will stop any further growth . I will give it a try the weekend and let you know mate ok .

after i've scrubed mine off it doesn't come back so i'd leave it. if you do put a solution on be carefull what you use as what ever the wood sokes up it will leak back into the tank for a while! anyway let me know how you get on

Yesterday i took a trip up to Cardiff's branch of Maidenhead aquatics and bought some stuff for the tank , some aqua safe , cycle and some interpet anti-fungal treatment with the intent on using it on this affected piece of bog wood . I had already taken the piece out of the tank before i had left so about 4 hours later on in the evening i started it , so i poured a little into a container and painted it straight onto the affected area , which soaked it up like a sponge . Hopefully it should be si-o-nara mr fungus . I put the piece back into the tank then later on because there is no live stock in there at all at the moment , so by the time that i introduce my plants any leaching from the wood will be over as i intend to do a water change before i add my plants . I will let you know if it grows back in the coming week . :ninja:
