just looked in my tank and my mopani bogwood is breaking out with a fur like substance  , its a white(ish) colour? has anyone else had anything like this before, should I remove the wood from the tank?

could it be white hair algae, i just googled my symptoms and I found a thread that sounded simliar to what my bogwood has on it. it says it could be white hair algae and it is common in newly established tanks and it will go eventually.

so not sure if I should be concerned or not?

I have had the bogwood in there for nearly 6 weeks now and its been fine up until today.

its perfectly normal for this to happen with mopani its nothing to worry about and will go over time some fish and snails will even eat it

thanks for the reply, its put my mind at rest, I was just shocked to see it there this morning. :-(

All the fishes still seem happy and the water tests are fine so I will keep an eye on the wood and see how it progresses.

thanks

Danny

I had this on my wood too, I waited for it to go over a couple of weeks then decided to give it a bit of a scrub with a green type pan scrubber one day during a water change. It's not come back.
