When I bought my big tank second hand last year it came with a shed load of bogwood. I used one large piece and donated the rest for my mothers aquaria. She never got round to using it and I have decided to use another large piece on my tank. It has spent the winter in a binbag in her back garden. It is too large to soak in a bucket and the best I can do is to wash it down with tank water or dechlorinated water. Will this be sufficient? The bogwood has been used before.

i would soak it in a bathtub with water and antibacterial solution for a few days before adding it to your tank.

Bugger, can't see that happening, not at the frequency my kids get them selves cack up and need a bath.

imsure the kids wont mind the antibacterial :hyper:

Lol, but the baby would no doubt think it was tea time and chow down, the toddler would try and throw it out of the window and the 6 year old would continually ask me 'why' have I put wood in the bath.

EDIT: I have the house to myself tomorrow, and I had planned to incorperate adding more bogwood as part of my water change but I guess I could have the wood in the bath from 8am til about 4pm which would be better than nothing. What antibacterial would I need? I was always just told to soak it in either tank or dechlorinated water.

good point about the kids

yep soaking it for a bit would be ok, i use melafix on everything before it goes into the tank, esp if its been standing around for a while, i know it was in a bag but hey better to be safe than add something to your tank innocently and have problems

It's in the tub now. It looks in good shape apart from just looking dried out. Thanks for the help.
