Bog Wood Cleaning

Hi Can anyone give me some advice on the best way to get the stain out of my bog wood ?

Boil it and soak it.

That'll speed it up but it'll take a while to come out no matter what.

add carbon to the filter this will remove any tannins in the water if boiling etc doesnt remove them all

yehh i have the same problem. i bought malasyian wood in january and i boiled for 1/2 hour it and soaked it for like a week and the tannins still never came out.what do i do??? is the black carbon supposed to take out the tannins?

I have been boiling for about an hour now and changing the water 10 mins in, There is so much cr*p in it lol.

Can I ask should I have the Bog Wood in the tank when I start my first Fishless cycle ? or dose it not make any differance ?

I already have Carbon in the filter (Thanks for tip!)

I think I read some where on here that it is a good idear to take the carbon out whilst cycling ? is this correct ?

Carbon you'll find mixed opinions on.

It has it's uses, and one of those is clearing tannins from the wood.

Unless you need it don't use it because it will need replacing on a regular basis.

Since you don't need it in the cycle, no point having it in.

And the wood should make no dif to the cycle.

Ok chris got it, ta, You said "I would need to change the carbon on a regular basis" if I was to keep it in the filter, I take it from your last reply that it should be changed when the water starts getting cloudy again ? or is there another tell tell I need to look out for?
Sorry to keep on but if I don't ask I will never know for sure.

Yeah, basically, if it's just for bogwood, if you notice any tannins in the water, change it.

You can also use it to clear out meds. So if you have to dose anything, take the carbon out, and put new in when the meds need clearing.
