I am getting some what frustrated. I bought a male platy about 2 weeks ago and he apparently had a body fungus. I discovered this after releasing him into my main tank. From there all my female guppies died as I medicated the tank. I should of had a quarantine tank in the first place (learned my lesson from this, now setting one up) and looked over him. After the medication process I recently discovered that my last remaining male guppy has an eye fungus or possibly pop-eye. And my largest Angel is now acting somewhat funny, constantly hiding and no longer coming out for food. Why is it that I am still having body fungus still pop up? Should I medicate again?

I think if I do medicate again though I will do water changes daily and then re-medicate. And of course always take out the carbon when medicating.

Does anybody have any good tips for treating these diseases, or an explanation to as of why these diseases are popping up?

what does his fungus look like? i have a black molly that, when stressed, gets a white fuzzy fungus on her body (it has happened at least 4 times in the last year). generally, i don't treat the tank. i catch her, and dip her in salt water for 20 seconds- twice. then place her in one of my breeding boxes and wait for it to clear up. if that doesn't work, i do one 10 second dip in epson salt. that'll normally clear it up.

the pop eye can be treated w/ oral medications for the fish. i want to say it's penicillian, but it might be tetracycline (it's one of the two). for that, i catch the fish and float him in a tupperware bowl and medicate him seperatly. i have never treated an entire tank unless it's a dose of melafix just for overall health of everyone.

if it's fin rot, which kind of looks like a body fungus, a dip in salt water might help, although i would be worried it would sting a bit (think salt in a wound)... but i don't know.

i'm no fish doctor.... :) hope it helps though!

I believe fungal infections can be contagious, generally they are opportunistic tho. They attack existing wounds or weak spots when the fish's defences are low.
I'd suggest you post in the emergency forum and see if Wilder is around. Make sure you post as much information about the symptoms as you can, along with the water stats for your tank. Sorry I can't be much help :(

where is the fungus and what does it look like? give him a salt bath od 1 teaspoon of aquarium salt per 5 gallons of water- make sure yo dissolve the salt before adding it and keep him in it for 5-10 mins. i did this and it whent in 2 days.
