My Black Phantom Tetra is facing the top of the tank and bobbing up and down. Been for like an hour, same spot. What's goin on? I think it may be nitrite posioning, I had to move the tank across the room and freaked all the fish out... :X

nitrIte: in between 2 and 5
nitrAte: 80 (thats not good)
pH: 7.4
ammonia: 0
temp: 78 degrees F

YIKES, thats a lot of nitrite. Could be nitrite poisoning or secondary infection due to vulnerability from nitrite poisoning. Either way that nitrite reading has to be brought down via water changes.

How old is the tank?

How long has it been since you moved it?

Definatly too much nitrites, do a 40% water change with dechlorinator ASAP to help lower your nitrites and nitrates, how many gallons does the tank hold, what and how many fish does it have and how long has it been set up for?

Gallons and fish in profile. Tank is probably about 2 1/2 years old. Moved it a few days ago (less than a week). I think that everyone just got freaked and fouled the water. Used a 20 high to put the water and fish in, left about an inch or two of water and the bottom dwellers (5 fish) Thing is, my mom cleaned up my bathroom and I cannot find my dechlorinater :X Everybody else seems happy, I'll see if Bobber is eating (He's deformed and bobs when he swims, and now this  ...

feeding...

doesn't look like he's eating... actually now that I look I see a tiny black spot and a white string on his belly... I stuck the back of the net in and he swam away... then went to the same spot and started bobbing again...lemme get some pics.

EDIT: I found the dechlorinater, but can't find the camera...I'll get some pics in the morning, gotta work on a history project :X :X :X :X :X

What were your nitrites and 'ates before you moved your tank? Sounds like you stirred up a lot of crud when you moved it. A couple large water changes, a good vacuum and filter maintainance over the next couple days is what I would do.

They were fine until the move. I did a 25% water change last night, and the nitrites have gone down to somewhere between .25 and .50. The fish died, found him on the edge of a rock partly under. Everyone else seems fine though.
