I have a spare 100L tank (nicely cycled & planted - now in the process of maturing) which I am planning on moving either my trio of Juvenile Long Fin BNs or my trio of Juvenile Starlight BNs into when I am confident it is running well (I want to let them grow in peace out of the community tank before getting them a bigger pad).

The question is would a pair of Rams be happy to live with BNs and which BN trio do you think would be a better fit.

Also would I be able to get away with 3 BNs and 4 Rams or is this too tight capacity wise.

Not had much Ram experience so any help welcome....

I think four rams may be too many. I have 350L and was told to buy about 5, wait for a pair to form and get rid of the rest as they can be teritorial towards there own kind.

Yeah I did wonder I have a male & female Ram in my other set up so I may just put that pair in the BN tank. Any views on compatibility?

I can't see there being a problem. The BNs I have kept have all been normal BNs but I have kept them with a pair of Rams with no problems. Infact I am on the look out for a nice pair of Rams and would not hesitate to put them with my BN.

Thanks, think I have a plan, just need to do some careful fish juggling now

Sorry - just read your 'juggling' comment and has these amazing visions of BN plecs and rams looping through the air....

Getting back to your original question, I agree with CruX - although I've not kept rams with BN's, I've heard elsewhere that it's possible

I'm going to give it a whirl, just need to decide which set of BNs move ...

I don't think rams are nippy, but they can get a bit teritorial, so maybe move the set that have the shortest fins/ less extremities.

On a side note, when I introduced my BN one of the other fish completely out of charactor nipped him. I think he thought he was food and all his bithdays had come at once with such a giant sized bit of food, the BN just looked him and he shot off. maybe I will feed them before adding new fish next time.

GUess that rules out moving the 'Long' fins then

They may be absolutely fine with them, maybe put them in and keep an eye on them if you wish to move the long fins in. I have never heard of Rams nipping long fins, and to be fair I have broken a few stocking rules with no ill effects so even if they did get nippy and you kept a close eye on them you would know fairly quickly anyway.
