Hi,

What are some good cichlids to mix with blue zebras besides other types of zebras and yellow labs? I am cool with the zebras being the only blue thing in the tank. What are you experiences? Thanks.

By blue zebra Im guessing you mean metriaclima cobalt blue? If so then these are mbuna and should only be kept with other mbuna species, Depending on the size of your tank I'd recommend only having one species of metriaclima unless your tank is at least 400+liters. Do you have any species in mind? and do you know that they do have to be kept with other mbuna?

It had stripes so it isnt a cobalt blue as i read that they are solid. He is a juvi now. I am fully aware that mbuna should only be kept with mbuna. I am not a dummy. My tank is 60 gallons. You did not answer my question at all. If i had species in mind I would not be asking. Thanks. Next....

never said you was a dummy :). But a 'blue zebra' could be more than one species as for some reason some fish are categorized as a blue zebra when it isn't even a scientific name for a mbuna so a pic would help determine what fish could go with your 'Blue zebra' as its quite hard to answer without knowing what the fish actually is

i been trying to take pics all weekend. Its hard, they move faster than my focus.

ok well that will help. Then im sure someone will help you out.

I think malawi mad gave you some good advice there!
Also think he was saying that only 1 type of mets should only be kept in a tank with other mbuna to stop cross breeding and you can mix other types of malawi cichlid together sucessfully with a bit of trail and error  blue zebra is a bit of an lfs identification and wont be the actual malawi id for your fish where did you buy them?

the local LFS. I asked the guy "what is this little blue guy over here?".......he replies.."thats exactly what he is, a little blue guy".........me......."what kind man?"............him........"Blue zebra"

I cant get a pic of it. It is a juvi. But i found this on google. the only diff is that mine has faint stripes.

ok sounds like a generic lfs blue malawi description sorry to say doubt you will be able to get a 100% id due to the hybred and poor import info lfs in the uk have.
also the photo could be any one of a hundred malawis especially as its a juvie sorry

^^^^yeah thats what i was thinking too. Im in the US. unfortunatley, all i have access to are "african" tanks in my area. ordering is too expensive. I'm fine with it though. I finally got a good pic of him though.

Anyways............I have them with yellow labs right now. I'm trying to think of something that will give off a good color balance when added to the blue and yellow. Something with the similar temperament too. although i havent had the blues long and do not know their true colors. I wish i had access to more fish in my area. Choices are limited. Red zebras would give a nice color balance but thats 2 mets. Blah.
