Hi guys. I am really chuffed with my blue star leopard wrasse (Macropharyngodon bipartitus) progress. I noticed this fish at my lfs a few weeks back and it really caught my eye with its great colour and interesting body markings so I went home and read about it. Much to my dissapointment nearly all sources classed this as a difficult fish as it is very similar to mandarins in its feeding habbits, usually only accepting live foods and often having a poor survival rate.
The fish remained in the shop and I saw it being fed and noticed it took frozen brine shrimp rather well. The next time I went in I took enough money with me to buy this fish, but before I did I asked to see it feed, and sure enough it fed well on more frozen brine so I bit the bullet and took it home.
I have had this fish for about 5 days now (in quarentine) and ever day it shows the same amazing appetite for frozen brine shrimp, with small feedings of maybe 4-5 shrimp 4-5 times a day. I know I am not totally in the clear yet as he (Gershwin) has not been with me long but looking at how well he is feeding, it looks like it could be a success. He will spend 4 weeks in quarentine, during which time I will try get him feeding on flakes and other foods.
It just goes to show that some individual fish dont go by what the book says!
