Hi, :)

Jumped a thread in the Aquarium pictures section when maybe i shouldn't (sorry all! :*) and got no response.

Not trying to spam but thought i might get a better response here so......

Daft question but...how do you tell the sex of a blue ram? I've read that it is something to do with their top fins (sorry don't know the name of the fin. Still learning!! )

I have two blues, apparently one male and one female (or at least that's what I asked for at the LFS!) but i can't really see any difference except one is smaller than the other and the small one gets a lovely red belly quite often. Also the big one's other markings/colours seem to be a bit more vibrant than the smaller one's.

Is the smaller one the female? If so is she ok getting a red belly? :dunno:

cheers

tbr :D

females have red bellies

the male should also show stronger colors and the yellow markings on his head will be more apparent than on the female

so i do have a male and a female then... hooray!!

thanks yvez9.

Sorry, nutha question......are they easy to breed? Should i be doing anything in particular to help them on their way??

thanks again in advance....

tbr :D

breeding is so so with rams. If they pair up, they shoud breed.
Provide them a cave made of rocks and a flat surfacve, like a piece of slate, to lay eggs. It might take a while though. Mine never bred while I had them. Keeping the water clean is the best thing you can do

the parents should care for the fry but it might take them a few tries to get it right. It might take a few months before they breed.

Feeding lots of live and frozen foods should trigger breeding too.
