Ive had a blue ram for about a week and they say that you should keep them with more than one so i got one more today and the one thats been there for a week now will come up to the new one and nibble at him. im sure its just that the one thats been there for a week has already established its territory but im not totally sure of that. i rearranged the rocks so that might help. if you have any help to give me id appreciate it.

Thanks!

It could be that one is a girl and the other one is a boy. Mine do this every once in a while. How big is your tank?

that might be right but the lady at petco said it was a male, and the males are more colorful than the female, and this one is not grey like females are, so im pretty sure that they are both males. its a 10 gal.

Female rams aren't gray :S

If anything, females are MORE colorful than males b/c they have a pink tummy. Do a google search for sexing blue rams and you'll get a ton of info.

If you have 2 females or 2 males, have a backup plan ready b/c they could kill each other (that's what happened to my first 2 - both females).

hmmmm... its weird Petco says the oppostie thing about fish that you all in the forum say. -_- man! i would goto an all fish store but there are none around where i live! but i trust you guys more than i trust petco. unbelievable. :dunno:

YEP, thats one mine looks like, except one has the black stripe through its eye and the other doesnt. what ever that means. so they are females huh? is it bad to have two females? what is the one on the left in your picture, thats a nice looking fish?

The males are more colorful than the females.

Females have color of course but they are more pale when compared to male

thats what i thought canarsie11, or thats what petco told me anyway. but i still have a problem. what should i do with these two. i dont want them to fight until the death. i hate seeing the one pick on the other. its weird because the new one isnt fighting back. its only the one thats been there for a week. i donno what to do but i have to do something quick. :dunno:

Never believe what your LFS tells you. If I see something nice in a store, I usually run home and look it up in the net before deciding to get it or not. I've been to petstores where the clerks don't even know what "cycle" meant.

I recently got rams, too, and I'm having some trouble sexing them (store clerk didn't know either). They get along, though, swim together and follow each other, but neither shows any distinctive pink belly (though one has rounder dorsal and anal fins). I don't think females are necessarily less colorful, I see a lot of vibrantly colored females in the net (and among the members' aqua pics here).

Do you think you can return and exchange one of your rams for one of the opposite sex?

Not the ones I've seen :dunno: Both on the net and IRL, the main difference I've seen in rams is the dorsal fin - the longer first ray and pointed/round end and the pink spot. Also, the pelvic fins are different too. The females I've had have all been more colorful than the males b/c of the pink belly.
