Hi guys.

I've got two blue rams (a male and a female) in my tank with five black neons and two cherry barbs.

I've been feeding them with flaked food, but when I've watched them at feeding time, I've noticed that the rams stick to the bottom and don't even seem to know it's feeding time! Meanwhile, the greedy tetras and barbs are scoffing the lot up at the top of the tank, leaving very little to sink to the bottom.

The rams don't seem to be losing weight and seem pretty happy really, but I'm just wondering if I should invest in some sinking pellets as they seem to nibble on the floor a lot.

This is my first post on here so take it easy on me if I'm doing anything wrong!

Thanks!

try using some frozen foods and using a pippete, turkey baster to put some down near them, or when u put flake in whirl ur hand about on the surface so it sinks and they shud get some

Thank you!

I'll try the swirling first but next time I go to the fish shop I'll pick up some frozen food to give them a bit of variety.

PS. Thanks for the fast response! I'm fairly new to fishkeeping and have used this forum for loads of advice - always really useful and honest - thanks again!

How long have you had the rams, sometimes it takes them a while to realise that the food comes from the top  but once they have the hang of it, they will be the first there barging the other fish out of the way.

Ram IME dont take much notice of sinking pellets, but try as advised and get some frozen (and defrost it in some tank water) and then put it in by hand near where the rams are. Alternatively, try feeding the other fish one end of the tank, the rams the other.

If you want you can try using freeze dried foods as well...blood worms are always a good choice. Try putting some blood worms in the tank as well as flake food and you might be able to get them to start eating the flake food as they will start to just eat because they realize that it's feeding time.
