Fish Fanatic
Hi
Just a bit of brain picking if I can?
I have a pair of blue rams amongst other things in my 24 gal.
About a fortnight ago,the female of the pair was seen to have a bulging eye on one side. She showed no obvious signs of distress and the problem was put down to our gorgeous but increasingly erratic and terrotorial CAE.He was sent off to pastures new as we had been putting off the inevitable for some time with him.Beautiful fish, but a newbie error.
Anyway,10 days ago I set up a hossy tank for her and treated her with 2 doses (4 days apart) of interpet anti-internal bacteria incase we had wrongly judged the CAE.
She got no better or worse and is active and eating normally
Yesterday I did a water change and added some aquarium salt and a dose of melafix, and repeated the melafix again today.
Her other eye now seems to be protruding slightly although she is still apparently in no distress.
I have been reading up to try and see how I an help her,as I am anxious that I may be overdoing the meds, then I saw some info about "gas bubble disease".
I am wondering if this may be the problem. The main tank has 2 filters running in it and the water is quite well agitated, also the hossy tank (the PFK cube with the filter it came with) creates quite a lot of bubbles.
Could this be making her worse?
Do you think she would be better off in the main tank being monitored where there are "less bubbles" or would you keep her in the hossy tank?
I am also concerned that although the shows no particular signs of stress, that she may be missing her fella and that might not help her recovery.
Sorry for the rambling post but she is a sweetie and I don't want to lose her.
BTW water params are ammonia 0,nitrIte 0,NitrAte 20.PH 7.6,which I believe is a bit high, but is the same as the lfs I got her from.
Thanks in advance.
