Got a pair of blue rams a while back, both are female and am curious as to why one of them has more black stripes and the other is pretty plain, both have the black dots just one doesn't have the stripes. Is it just how the fish are sometimes?
The stripes are 'stress' colouration, very common in cichlids.
It doesn't necessarily mean the fish is stressed, exactly; it could be angry, showing submission to a more dominant fish, or just be nervous in a new tank.
