ive had my blue ram for about a month now and this morning i found him dead on the bottom. i quickly tested my water in fear of loosing other fish. but the readings are PH 7.2 Am 0 Nit 0 Nitrate 10

is it just a random course of nature?

We need to know how he was acting before hand.If there were any signs of illness, what tank mates he had & so on...

your tank is grossly, grossly overstocked. i bet it's a 29 US gallon as well, isn't it. and i bet you didn't really test your water, you just guessed, didn't you. and i bet your water has a much higher nitrate number than 10. and i bet thats why your ram died. and i bet thats why most peoples rams die

jesus, someone's a lil cranky this morning
29 gallon with two aqua clear 70 gallon (300 gph) HOB filters
i religiously use the API master test kit (drops) the day before my 25% weekly water change

it takes all of 5 minutes to test the water, so im not really sure why it was so unrealistic to think i tested it???? and why would i lie about the readings, if i saw the readings were abnormal i wouldnt be asking what went wrong

What are the dimensions of the tank? 29Gall can be long or tall, dimensions would help find if its US or UK galls. From there you can decide if its as massivly over stocked as suggested.

What the hell was the point in that!

Well TBH either way if it is overstocked, imperial or us gallons. It does not matter if it's long or high in this case,it's how much water there is=how much bioload you can have

Your tank is overstocked. Parrots can be agressive and so can angels( exspecially when very overstocked). I would get rid of both and keep some rams and other apistos and a school of tetras+ corries.

yea the fish per inch guideline, im very past.. but as far as bioload, with my live plants ammonia and nitrite is consistantly 0ppm and the nitrates are around 10ppm.

i religiously change 25% water every week. and only feed once a day.

thats funny you say that....my angel gets along with everyone.....and my bolivian rams chase my parrot around

But your fish, shurly cannot be happy in such cramped quarters? Dont you want your fish to be happy? My teacher had a 50 gallon tnak with 1 angel and 25 platys and 10 mollies. The angel got along with everyone. My teacher sat by her tank, and started reading , got up a hour later looked at her tank, to find all her fish dead but her angel. The angel was eating of the other fish and her water tests were fine!!!!!!!!!!! Her angel has never got along with livebearers or anyother fish except angels since.

There is more carried in water than ammonia, nitrites and nitrates - fish hormones, allochemicals etc. A biological filter will get rid of the main 2 we are concerned about.. but do nothing for other things in the water, and these will undoubtably affect the fish.

I always think of it like being in a lift.. they say 'suitable for 12 people'.. but if you get stuck in one that is full... who has the worst BO/bad breath/gas...how long before the first person snaps and gets cranky???

You are just making a rod for your own back.. the more overcrowded it is the more problems you will run into. This includes unexplained deaths, minor fish ailments etc.

I have never seen a post on any forum where a fish died an unexplained death in an under stocked mature tank (excepting old age of course).

I do agree the guy above was a bit 'short' with you... but I'm sure this is not the first 'unexplained death in an overstocked tank' thread he has read - it can get frustrating sometimes.

The message is still gona be 'fish welfare' first though.. no matter how cranky we sometimes get.

I hope you get things sorted
