Noticed my blue ram female was gasping badly at the back of the tank last night, and she was dead when I got home from work. My water is good and all the other fish are fine. I thought it was a gill problem as she was breathing really heavily and rapidly. After I fished her off the bottom I had a look in the gills and they looked gooey and pale, but I dont know if this was just because she had been dead for a while. I have noticed a couple of fish scratching on the bogwood and leaves. Any ideas? also how to treat it. Thanks,

Mark.

it could be gill flukes
Sympyoms
1.Gills move rapidly
2.Fish pants at water surfae
3.Gills are covered in mucus, parts are eaten away
4.Fish may scrape itself against objects

it is coused by tiny worm like creaturea barely visible to the naked eye the infect the fishes gill membranes and lay eggs which fall to the bottom and are very resistant ot treatment

Sounds like gill flukes, heavy breathing, red inflamed gills, also gill can be pale, flicking and rubbing against objects,I would treat the tank for gill flukes good luck.
