I have a slight problem, my fry tank has got cyano bacteria. I've dealt with this problem before by covering the tank over for 4days in the dark but am concerned that my new fry (only born yesterday) will not survive this time in the dark.
Does anyone know any others ways off getting rid of blue/green algae?

IMHO,Algae is caused by over lighting, yes i know this isnt always the case but if you have lighting on to much without plants to absorb the light you get loads of thick green algae...i tend to have my lighting on for a few hours during the day unless its bright enough outside and then on all night until mid morning roughly about 10-12 hours a day,if you still have a problem i would get some algae eaters like bristlenoses or something close they clean your tank in no time at all :) The fry should be ok in the dark...i would say just try and limit your lighting for a week or so and see if you notice any difference, just turn it on at feeding time for around half hour so you can see the fry eating

But make sure your tank is away from the windows as this will cause algae to,if you search the forums there is plenty more dos and donts to stop/get rid off algae.hope this helps

Ta-da!

The fry should be fine in the dark. As long as you still feed them and such. :)

Excellent, didn't want to stunt the poor little things but equally didn't want to kill em off with the toxic bacteria! Guess I'll just keep feeding then! :D
