Blue Eyes

Hello People. I was at a local lfs yesterday, and a fish caught my eye. When I asked the assistant he did not know what it was beleive it or not. So I will describe it best that I can, if anyone can give me any ideas, I will look up your answer on the net.

It was a pale coloured (nearly white) top feeder, with a rounded tail - and a very destinctive neon blue eyes.

If anyone has any ideas please help.

thats the only thing i could think of that has blue eyes, is a top feeder and has a round tail, although im not sure about the pale body

Northen blue eye is a australian mid water fish pale with blue eyes perhaps?

Good shout my friend, same kind of shape and bluue eyes, however no black stripes all white. any other ideas?

Absalutely spot on It was a Norman's Lamp eye - do you know how big these grow, and if they are a good community fish.

Hi Rusty,
Lampeyes are an excellent community fish but must be kept in a shoal and have a nice flow of water (small powerhead or spraybar). 5-6 is good but 8 would be better providing you don't overstock. Regular waterchanges also give you a little leeway when it comes to overstocking.

Latin Name: Poropanchax Normani (previously Aplocheilichthys Normani)
Origin: Mostly from Africa
Temperature: 22-26* celcius
Ease Of Keeping: Easy
Aggressivness: Serene, good schooling killie suitable for the community aquarium.
Lighting: subdued lighting prefered
Adult Size: approx 2"
Minimum Tank Size: 10gal for a school
Feeding: Prefers small live foods, but does well on tropical flake foods
Spawning Method: plant spawners

Comments: Normanis are a very delightful and playful schooling killie to have in the aquarium. They are silvery blue or silvery yellow in colour and have beautiful blue rims around their eyes that is impossible to miss in a densly planted tank! Very easy to spawn - Readilly spawn when water conditions are perfect. When spawning, the female will turn completely pale (even her eyes) as if she is very stressed. She will retain this colour for a day or so after spawning then finally returning to her normal colouration.

Keholes are a fairly peaceful species of cichlid and I have kept these with small epiplatys before with no adverse effects.

No Problem I myself have considered these beautiful little fish, but just haven't had the setup for them.
