Okay thanks for the help. If I were to remove the female, would it be possible to add anything else to the tank? Maybe a school of tetras or a few mollies etc?

My advice would be return the female and and get another 3 or 4 cherries; they will be happier and perhaps more resilient when the lonely and bored gourami decides to try herding them.

Having said that I probably wouldn't follow my own advice and I would probably have already got an extra girl.... so listen up to essjay about hiding places

I’ve already returned home with an extra female and some more hiding places for them. Will keep an eye on them over the next couple days and the store have said they’re happy to take them back if problems persist
