Blue Dolphins (moorii)

Hi all!!..I bought a seconed hand tank last week which came with 3 Blue Dolphins,they have been fine for the last week but tonight after i did a water change within 10 minutes of doing the water change 2 of them keep swimming in a circular motion round the tank then fiercly attacking each other,the other one is fine and there not bothering with that one,does anyone know why there are suddenly doing this?

I doubt it had anything to do with the water change, more than likley you are seeing two males sparring for dominence.

Though just to be sure, did you add dechlorinator and what are your current PH/ammonia/nitrIte levels?

While they are considered mildly aggressive, multiple males are generally not tolerated. They should also be kept in a minimum 125gal with plenty of open space.

Thanks Dtoffsett,they have stopped now but one of the ones that was fighting is at the front of the tank looking very sorry for himself while the other 2 have become very active and are just swimming up and down the back corner of the tank and wont leave each others side. Yes i did use a dichlorinator i havent checked the ammonia/nitrate and ph levels because i used the last ones on my other tank last week,im waiting for a API master test kit to be delivered off ebay.

I didnt really want the fish in the first place but they came with the tank,but im now getting quite attached to them

Water changes often induce spawning behavior. A lot of my Tangs breed the same day or the next day after a water change. Keep an eye on the odd man out. If it continues to be beaten on, removing it from the tank is the best option.

Thanks Lalo99,ive decided im going to get rid of them hopefully sell them on. They seem to have been ok today no sparring as of yet
