Has anyone breed any of these? I'm thinking of buying 1 male & 3 females & putting them into a 3ft tank. I've heard they are difficult to breed in captivity but I was just wondering if anyone on here has breed them.

Not difficult to breed in my experience, but I think a 3' tank may be too small. :good:

I could use the 4ft/2ft/2ft tank, which will be spare once I get my new tank.

Would this do?

Could I house anything else with them?

The 4ft would be good. You could keep them with Malawi cichlids. I have mine in with Malawi and they get on fine although would depend which ones.

Are they agressive? or is it the malawi cichlids?

The dolphins are not generally agressive, and as for the Malawi there is a scale of order to their agression and also depends on what you put in with which ones. You'd might be better starting a thread title along the lines of Which Malawi would fit in with dolphins then you'd get someone more knowledgable than me giving you some good advice.

In with mine I have the following, Maylandia Estherae, Yellow labs, Pseudotropheus Kingsizei, Afra Mbamba, Pseudotropheus Acei, Synodontis Petricola and Melanochromis Cyaneorhabdos and this bunch get along together fine.

Personally speaking a 4 foot tank would only be suitable whilst these fish are growing, they can easily go 7"-9" and would really require a nice big 6 x 2 x 2 to be completely happy, that said they can be slow growers so it maybe some time beofre a 6 fotter is needed.

Like i said just my opinion - I have a 4 footer with two dolphins in so i have to be careful not to be a hypocrite, but thety are only 2" long at the mo and i've had them 6 months and they have hardly grown so i know that IN TIME i will have to upgrade :D

Which by the way is a great excuse as they are my partners favourite fish :hey: :hey:

They 'are' slow growers not can be slow growers. If you're interested I have a breeding trio for sale. Check out the Buy and Sell section. :)

Thanks guys. It's my girlfriend who wants these Dolphins so it's a good excuse for me to get another big tank or keep the 4ft until then lol.

I love the yellow labs & malawi cichlids. I seen a huge tanks full of them in Chester, it looked fantastic.

Wheres the buy and sell section? -_-
I have a male and iv just aquires another 2 not sure of there sex yet. My male was one of the most dominant fish in my last tank and that was with some brusers! The aggresion depends on the fish there all different, however generally speaking not as aggresive as most! Yes they are VERY slow growers, slowest growing fish iv owned
