hi im just wondering what would be the size of a tank for one of these to be happy in and would i be able to put any fish in with him

thanks for any help

but no fish unless your tank is gigantic--even then it'd be a risk. those claws aren't just for show; crayfish are predators.

are you positive that its a blue crayfish and not a blue lobster? blue lobsters can and will reach 12" in length. they need a minimum 55g all to themselves when adult.

Isle of Man is in the UK, right? unless you're going to import a Procambarus Alleni, you'll probably wind up with a Cherax Quad--the only blue lobster legal to sell in the UK. (and the Cherax sp. grow to 12")

There are something like 6-8 species that are blue or have blue mutations in them and they do range from 3-4" to bigger than 12" so you'll have to be more specific.

oh god! i didnt know it was illegal to get one sooooo sorry :-( wouldnt of started this thread if i knew it was sorry

Hi I live in the Uk and have seen this crayfish for sale, I know they're illegal but some fs still have them. They mark them up as a bue lobster and they mainly don't know the difference between cherax quad and any of the others - if they are blue and have big claws they are a blue lobsters, and if they have it imported to them it must be legal (ignorance is bliss).

A pretty big one at that size. I'd try and start with something smaller if I were you. I haven't run across any people online that sell crays from the UK, but I have heard of a number of fish stores that will sell many different kinds. If you ever have a question on a specific kind, let me know.

My lfs just had a blue lobter. He was pretty. Apparently they don't know much about such things. I was buying gouramis and they were tryin to get me to buy him for that same tank (a 55gal). Said he would be unintrusive and a nice "bottom feeder". (No, I didn't buy him)

I have a electric blue crayfish (blue lobster)...it was fine in my tank for a couple of months. I had a fish disappear dont know why but found it under a rock which is only assessable by Blue, half eaten, also I started to get plants being eaten by Blue (which I watched him doing) I love that little guy but my plants and fish come first !!!
Well blue now has a tank all to himself, but with plstic plants I cant afford 410 to $20 a
plant just for him to snack on.....I was warned on this forum I should have listened I dont like dead fish :*)
