Hey, I've ordered 2 baby firemouths and 2 baby blue acara's.

I have a 55g tank which they are going in. I have two main questions..
I need some stones to put in the tank, to create hiding places for these guys, i've been to home depot, lowes, garden centers, but noone has anything apart from huge cratefuls for $200
Is there anywhere i can find online?

and secondly, I was hoping you could suggest some other fish i could put in with them. I really wanted an all world tank, with some colorful but not so aggressive africans.. but i doubt this will happen.
Please could i have some suggestions on colorful fish which will be okay with the blue acaras and the fm's

thanks,
Robert

I think if the fish pair up, then your tank might be fully stocked (You could get away with some dithers like swordtails possibly). I personally wouldnt recommend any africans, I think its better to keep them seperate.
The chances of you having 2 pairs from 4 fish may be slim, but I think you should just keep an eye on things, just to be sure.

as far as stone work goes, I have gotten mine from 2 sources, none of it online, the first being a LFS in my area which isn't exactly the best quality.

the second place I got mine from was a job site where I was working and I am still doing the preliminary tests to see if there will be any ill effects before I add it to other tanks but so far the limestone bed rock that I collected has been very good.

I would go with Juan's second suggestion. The rock is free and you can find some interesting shapes and all different sizes. Make sure you "boil" and wash the rock thoroughly to kill any bacteria or baddies on the rock. But as long as it's not calcium carbonate (will raise the pH and play havoc with other water stats) then your cool. To check, put a few drops of vinegar on the rock. If it doesn't bubble, then your cool. If your still not sure, there is a whole thread devoted to rocks and what can and can't be used in home aquaria on TFF somewhere... I forget where at the moment
