fair enough, was just wondering if it was the fish shop person just told you it to sell you them.

up to you who's advise you believe, best to get as many opinions as possible then you can make an educated choice.

:)

yh but its hard when u have loads of choices, thank you for helping me

im thinking of restocking my 180g tank. and put blue acara in there

What the person told you may be true. There are exceptions to the rules as some fish seem to defy what we think we know about them. For cichlids, this can be especially true as their personalities and temperments can vary quite a bit. I would agree that combining these fish is not a good idea but for the advice you recieved from other sources, they may have had fish who were exceptions. You really have to go with the flow with cichlids.... even if an overall concensus majority says that something could work, your fish could prove you wrong

Basically, just try things that are close and you might get lucky, but even if its a near assured fine stocking, always be prepared with an extra tank or a tank divider if problems should arise so one of your tanks does not turn into a war zone :good:

i might get a 2" blue acara and see how it goes, if it starts to attack everything ill put it in a spear tank.

I personally wouldnt add Blue Acara to a tank with little neons or Rams. If the tank is large enough with plenty of space and hinding areas i may consider adding a Firemouth (personally id prefer to add a pair, less chance they will bully others when together) as long as i knew that if it went wrong i could move the new comer straight away.

You will know your fish and their temprements so you decide if you want to risk it.

i have kept an acara with a mated pair of kribs and a pair of firemouths, 2 angels and a dozen neons.
my decription of the acara is that it was a lazy aggressive.
if it could eat or bully something without effort it would - bye bye neons "they just swan into my mouth, honest guv"
but when faced with something that meant he had to put in some effort he just ignored it - the kribs beat it up when brooding.
the firemouth would show all their fire and chase him about
the angels were fine with everyone...

so make of that what you will

i've said before and will say it again

there are as many valid opinions and experiences with fish are there are sources of opinions and experiences....

mine is that the acara is quite a cool fish, will eat anything small and probably ignore anything else

very true!

especially when it comes to cichlids..... the simple answer with virtually any cichlid combination is try it but have a plan B.

they're temprement can vary so much it's impossible to say difinitivley, taking a risk with your stocking is OK as long as it's a calculated one and you have a back up plan for if it doesn't work out.
