I bought some bloodworms for my fish today (see signature for details). They came in a packet with cube-shaped compartments. You just sort of pop out the cube of bloodworms, like you do with strepsils :D

Can anyone tell me how many / much i shold be feeding them? Thanks.

One cube and defrost it first.

i think one cube would be too much
perhaps half a cube would be enough

better to underfeed than overfeed so start off with half

if the fish eat them all very quickly then add a bit more

Defrost it???? Never heard that 1 b4!!!!!

Give my fish 1 cube every 2 days and normal food the rest of the time... They attack it as soon as it goes in the tank, it soon defrosts in there.

you should never put frozen food straight to your tank, it's not good for your fish....you should let a piece of the cube melt in a cup with your tank water not tap water then drop it off the tank. if your feeding 1 cube for the fish on your sig, then you are overfeeding them, even half the cube is too much....

I bought whole bloodworms in jelly for my danios today and its soooooooo fun watching them sook up a worm like it was spaghetti !!! Aww so cute

Thanks guys. I did think that even half a cube would be too much; there were quite a lot when it thawed out.

Also, how do the non-frozen live foods compare to frozen bloodworms? There were some in the shop today where I went, I wasn't sure which was the better option...

There is a debate that live foods can fetch desease into the tank, tubliex is the worse affender in live, I use frozen only.

You'd have to keep them in the fridge to keep them alive for a few days, but that's just for certain types of live food, and I think that frozen brine shrimp are more nutritious than their live counterparts, not sure about bloodworms though. Also, did you read this thread about live food that's pinned in this forum?

Yes I've read that, it was very informative. So, I should stick to frozen, right?

I would. It's less hassle, and is supposed to be more nutritious. I buy Sally's San Fransicso brand, and you can read the info on the pack.

alot of people are saying 1 cube or half a cube but it depends on what make you use.

i'ved seen 2 different types locally to me 1 of them i would feed 2 blocks of and the other i would use 1 bit.

I just take the cube and shake it in the water, that way if you have taken to much it's not completely defrosted.

As Paul said. I defrost mine in a glass (frozen is suggested to cause intestine problems). Once defrosted I add it in small amounts to my tanks and watch what is eaten straight away. If any is left, I stop adding, they will find it soon. If you just chuck it in, you may not see any leftovers which will rot and mess up your tank.

I have five tanks now and am very careful feeding wise (I do feed everyday, some people say this is too much) but I do watch to see what is eaten. If any is left, hoover it out asap, within a day.

Frozen is supposed to be less prone to disease and parasites than live, which makes sense as the live parasites would be killed by freezing, same for diseases?

Jon

Depending on the size of the cube, i'd probably stick with about 1/3rd of a cube. I have some decent sized cubes and I feed 1 to my puffers (and my tigers since they are bullies and such pigs :p )
