So today I decide to treat my fishy friends to some bloodworm. I dissolve it in some tank water and pop it in. The fish go mad for it, so mad in fact, that one poor platy took a nasty knock in the frenzy to munch bloodworm and appears to be suffering with his swim bladder. He has been swimming upside down and laying on the substrate. Occasionally he will swim normal for a few minutes but ultimately he ends up laying on the substrate again. I fear he may not be long for this world but I have put some nice peas in for him to help him, he doesn't seem that bothered. :-(

Sadly the fish sounds in a bad way it advanced to far.
Don't feed bloodworms when they have swim bladder to high in protein.
Yes give all the fish a flush through with shelled peas.

Hi CruX :)

I'm sorry to hear about your injured platy. When a fish has a swim bladder problem due to injury, it will sometimes recover on its own. This can happen when a fish is netted at the lfs too. About all you can do is wait and see how it goes.

While many fish love bloodworms, it should be more of a regular part of the diet of others. Your corys are among this group. I hope you will begin to feed them this nutritious food more often. :D

He wouldn't have had swim bladder if I hadn't had dropped bloodworm in there, the poor fella was just in the swimming path of another platy who managed to knock ten bells out of him.

He is having decent swimming sessions but another platty has nipped him right on the nose while in mid swim, he then dropped back onto the substrate as if he had given up. I am in a quandry, do I pull him out and euthanase or hope the peas will do the trick. I don't think he is ill and thats caused the swim bladder because he was swimming fine before the other fish struck him but I didn't think a knock off another fish would cause swim bladder problems.

Sorry got it mixed up.
Give him a chance he might pull through he might be winded, but if the swim bladder is damaged yes it won't mend.
