can anyone tell me how much blood worm to feed african cichlids,,,,in the pet store they come in small bags,,,is the amount in the bags for a day,,a week,,,i dont want to over feed,,,,they really love the stuff,,,it cost 30p a bag,uk.
i have 2 small ,baby yellow labs and an malawi eye eater,,which is about 4 inch long,,and another cichlid about 4 inch long,,,any suggestions,,please
 
you shouldnt feed bloodworm, it can cause bloat and kill them. You can feed them something such as brineshrimp though, no more than once a week

It really depends on the species of fish you have. Based on the fish you listed you should be fine. A pic to help ID the other cichlid would help give a better answer.

It really depends on the species of fish you have. Based on the fish you listed you should be fine. A pic to help ID the other cichlid would help give a better answer.

The eye biter would be ok, but labs still shouldn't have blood worm. They typically eat small crustaceans in Lake Malawi (one of the few mbuna that aren't strictly herbivorious), however, algae still comprises a large part of their diet and they can contract bloat from too much meaty protein.

Yellow labs also eat insects in the wild. Bloodworms are insects. They are larvae from midge flies. Not that I would feed bloodworms only. But there is no problem feeding bloodworms as an treat. I have fed bloodworm for years to yellow labs and have never had bloat. Again dont feed them exclusively but you can feed as a treat.
