okay, ive asked these questions a million times but no ones answerd

what is the absalute minimum tank size for a young parrot? i heard it was 30-35 gals

what kinda tank mates can they go with?i heard semi aggresive/peaceful fish i.e dwarf cichlids

and if this is true can i get one in a 30 gal?

55g dude they get large, its more tank space than what they need but i cant see you having a blood parrot in a tank by its self i know you want to have tank mates thats why im saying 55g. Dwarf cichlids would be picked on really bad by them just remember these guys come from a Midas Cichlid, one of the most agressive and powerful cichlids there is.

:S alrighty

i guess ill just ahve to save up for another tank

but if i do get another tank anytime soon and get these guys what kinda tank mates can i get for them?

Severums are a decent tank mate for these fish. None of my parrots have ever gotten so big that I couldn't put them back in a 30 gallon. I have four of them in a 125 gallon and I think that two of them could deal with a 30 gallon as long as you do water changes often and it is not a hexagon. Firemouths might be a alright tank mate, or any other mild mannered fish since parrots cannot close their mouths and bite back. But, good choice of fish. Parrots are my absolute favorite. Some think they are freaks but I love them and will always keep a couple as long as they were not cruelly died.

Aren't BPs part severum? If they are, why not get a severum? It grosses me out how wsome of the parrots' mouths look  It's your choice though, and being that they are made up of large cichlids, the minimum should be a 55 gallon :)

blood parrots cant bite?? stick your finger in the tank when they lay eggs then you will see how hard they bite lil mine ripped into the lip of my male sev.

so the minimum i should get for 2 is 55 gal?
and i can get a sev for tank mates?
alright so im saving up for a tank bigger tank. and im gonna try and get a sev or any other sugeestions for tank mates?

Hi There

I have 5 blood parrots and they are with a frontosa and texas cichlid and rainbow fish. Very peaceful. I have another two in a 40 gallon tank. Obviously in uk tank sizes are different in width to the states. But mine are happy and full of life.

Never have any problems

Why not just get some real cichlids rather than parrots?

lol IMO BPs aren't all that they are cracked up to be. just think of all the hard work that some crack pot ole fool put into making an expensive feeder. think I should start a thanksgiving for my fish, I get turkey and my fish get a small BP   :grr:

thats not very nice guy i think blood parrots or one of the colest fish out there they look like no other

they look like parret ciclids.

why not get some of those instead. Then they can breed.

bp's and parrots look alike? i don't see a similarity

there is alot of controversy over the blood parrot since it is not a true cichlid. it is a hybrid. there is alot of guesstimation as to the two species that are used. alot of fishkeepers do not acknowledge the hybrids. the majority suffer from deformities, especially the mouth. many are also dyed to get the jellybean colors. putting them with cichlids, imo, just ruins the look of the tank.

obviously you dont know that I was joking, but in truth they are nothing more than gentic junk and are about as useful as a car without a motor.
