Bloated Tetra

Well, just an update to say that i don't know how or why, but my gourami is still fighting, she has had a few salt baths and is getting very weay as she floats about alot, but i have managed to get her to eat a little. will keep you posted

Fingers crossed and good luck.

I don't hold out much hope, she finds it hard to keep up with the water flow, as she is so little, but at least i have tried, still if all the meds and salt baths don't work , nothing will, i think i will now leave her alone and see if she can make it.

the ram is better, a bit and is swimming about, eating a bit but i have to take her out and feed her separatly from the others, so i think she will be okay :fish:

Did you try the peas.

Hi, yes i did try the peas, the ram and the gourami were not interested, i have only managed to get them to eat a tiny bit of flake food, the tetras are still fat and still swim alot on the spot in the out put flow of the filter. there behaviour isn't right.

i gave the fish some frozen shrimp food this morning, but none of them were as interested as usual, the ram had a couple, but not the gourami. she stayed in hiding.

The gourami is still alive but very weak, she will swim a bit but then loose control, like she has swim bladder she will then forced into in the flow of the filter and get whooshed to the other end of the tank. doing some 360 turns on the way, this must be having an effect on her strength.

I don't know what else to do to be honest, i could try to treat for swim bladder, but with the melafix and the interpet 9 in the tank it's difficult.Unless i can do a dip in the swim bladder solution (mixed accordingly.) also don't know how many more salt dips to do, i mean surely it stresses the poor fish every time i catch her, so i havent touched her for a couple of days.
Any advice?

My poor dwarf gourami died, at least she in peace now. :rip:

Sorry R.I.P.
The other one dosn't sound good either.
Fish don't always like peas when you first introduce them into there diet, you have to keep trying.
Nothing to do far swim bladder i'm afraid once it has progressed.

The ram has a little bit of colour back, she does swim about alot, she definatley doesn't have swim bladder. she does get bullied a bit by the pregnant mollie, especially when it comes to eating she gets chased off teh food, that is why i was trying to feed her separately, all i can do is keep adding the melafix for the next few days (7 in total) I have added the last dose of interpet 9 medicine to the tank, so we shall see.

Tetras still fat and very silvery shiny looking on the tummy, still no sticky out scales, very unsure what it is. But they eat and swim.

Dont know if ive missed this but have you tested for ammonia, nitrite etc?
Also how long has the tank been running and what is your tank maintenance regime? How are you cleaning the filter out and how often?

Hi black angel, this is the tank that we spoke about once before, i had put the meth blue in the tank and it has the tetra that has the the missing gill cover, you probably dont remember as i know you speak to loads of people,

after cleaning the tank completely, the filters recovered very quickly, the levels have remianed at ammonia 0, nirite 0, and nitrate 5, i have been testing the water daily, my ph is on 7.6, but i reckon if i did a higher test it would be more like 7.8 - 8.

I have today done a small water change as there a small amount of ammonia in the tank, the reading was much less than .25 but i wanted to be safe,.

I rinsed 1 x half of the internal filter in the old water as the warning symbol was showing on it for a clean, i havent touched the external as when i changed to water to get rid of the meth blue i put in 2 x new filter pads out of the 4 that were present as they were very blue.

I think my filters are in control, but the whole situation messed up the poor fishes.

I would add now that the poorly ram is no longer poorly, she is eating well, and standing up for herself alot more, she has regainesd 80% or so of her colour and i am very pleased with her progress.

We have stopped the interpet 9 as we had added the last dose at the weekend and also the melafix. To try now to get the water back to normal for them all.

The tetras are strange , shiny and fat, but they swim okay, and eat ok, so i will keep my eye on them.

Hopefully i won't have much more trouble and in a couple of weeks, may be able to finally add a cople more, but i think i will avoid dwarf gouramis as they seem to delicate.

Thank you, thankyou, thank you for your help.

:D

Glad it's getting better.
