Hey people,

You'd think Christmas would allow me to sit back and enjoy my aquarium, but as I was doing just that I realized one of neon tetras is completely bloated around the belly area. Here, I attached a picture...

What is wrong with him? Maybe she's bearing eggs? I can't really isolate her to another aquarium as I have no other, so hopefully there's medication? Is it contagious?

looks like your over feeding, fast for a day every week or so to prevent this from happening, and make sure you include live food in their diet. do they float? or have trouble staying down

I've read up on a possible sickness... piscine tuberculosis, whose symptoms are bloated belly, hiding, bulged eyes (they are slightly bulged). Cure - none. Gonna have to kill this little guy... as soon as my halides go off and cool down, he's gonna have to go. :S

OK, I'll give it a day... but I'm worried that it may be contagious. I guess I'll wait. It may be overfeeding, I do tend to give them more food than they really need (I know this is bad I just have trouble calculating). It has no problem staying up or swimming at all. Perhaps it is just fat... :D

hes deffintaly greedy, reduce your food right down. and dont feed tommorow, and if it hasnt got any better it may be best to euthanize him.

but what is your feeding regime at the moment?

Due to my schedule, I feed them once a day, trying to give them enough so that they can go through the whole day.

fish can go weeks without food, put a pinch in and if it gets eaten put another in do this for 2 mins max once every day or every other day. do you suplement with live foods or meaty food, such as bloodworms? or some of the smaller meatier foods?

also make sure every fish gets their fair share of food

Will do... just an update... not much time has gone by and the fish is much better, at least it looks thinner. I guess it finally passed its gas ^_^

to prevent this in the future feed your fish every other day with what they can eat in 2 mins only - that way they stay fit and healthy and dont get bloated or constipated from over eating
i know it says on fish food labels to feed 3 times a day but ignore that they are just trying to get you to buy more food
as truck said fish can quite happily go quite a while without food

fish always seem hungry but ignore them most fish are greedy
